When most people think of a Jeep Wrangler they picture a Jeep equipped with a soft top. To many people, the idea behind the soft top is the whole reason they want a Jeep in the first place. Within this Article I will discuss some of the pros, as well as the cons to a soft top on a Jeep Wrangler.
Jeep Wrangler Soft Top Pros and Cons
There are a number of pros and cons to owning a Jeep with a soft top. Whether you are in the market for a Jeep and trying to decide if a Soft Top is right for you or are looking to ditch your hard top, you will find some of the biggest pros and cons to owning a Soft Top below!
Jeep Wrangler Soft Top Cons
After owning my soft top for four years now, I have come up with a list of the things I dislike most about my soft top. The first of these items is the noise. In my situation, I do a lot of traveling which means I spend a lot of time on the highway with my wrangler. Whenever I travel in excess of 50mph, my soft top begins to pound and buffer. At times it can feel like you are inside of a subwoofer. I have learned to tune it out but if you are picky about noise when you drive, a soft top is not for you.
Another con to owning a soft top is the lack of insulation. When it is nice outside having a soft top is great because of the ability to put it down and feel the wonderful air. However, if the weather is anything but optimal, having a soft top can be a bit uncomfortable. When it is cold outside, you will have to crank the heat up all the way to maintain a comfortable temperature with a soft top. On the other end of the spectrum, on hot days, you will have to crank the A/C as high as it can go to maintain comfort. There have been days driving down the highway where the A/C could not even keep up with the heat of the summer day. If having better control of the temperature of your vehicle is a priority, avoid a soft top.
Jeep Wrangler Soft Top Pros
Now that we got out all of our negativity about soft tops out of the way, we can move on to the exciting aspects of owning a Jeep wrangler with a soft top. Having a soft top gives you the ability to put the top down on nice days; thus creating a kind of fun dune buggy effect that is super fun. With enough practice you can have the top down and cruising down some back roads in as little as ten minutes. If you love the idea of driving with the doors off and the top down on beaches and trails all summer, a soft top is the right move for you.
The biggest pro in my opinion to owning a soft top is the feeling of driving a real jeep. If it were not for my soft top, driving my Jeep Wrangler JK would feel like driving any other car on the market. The soft top gives me the kind of rugged and wild feel that I wanted in my Jeep. Hard tops, to me, take away from the feel of the vehicle and make it less fun.
