How Warm Should It be to Take the Top Off of a Jeep?

One of the signature features of a Jeep Wrangler is the ability to take off the top. It may not be as easy as pressing a button, like in modern convertibles, but there is something about taking the top off of your Jeep that gives you a good feeling.

How Warm Should It be to Take the Top Off of a Jeep?

Most Jeep wrangler tops can be taken down in a matter of minutes which makes for quick fun in the sun. I specifically say sun because it is very rare that anyone would want to take their top down and drive in the rain or cold. But I do acknowledge that different folks have different strokes. Everyone has different tolerance for the cold. For this reason there is an ongoing dispute as to how warm is warm enough to take the top off of a Jeep.

Best Temperature to Take The Top off of a Jeep

Some people may say that 50 degrees is warm enough to take the top off of a Jeep while others will swear that it has to be over 95 degrees. To be honest it all comes down to personal preference. I prefer that it be at least 80 degrees while some of my good friends will drop the top when it is in the mid 60’s.

Be sure that you take into consideration where you will be driving. If you plan on driving below speeds of 50 miles per hour it does not have to be as warm. If you are going to be going over 50 miles per hour, you will want it to be a little warmer before you take off the top.

Let it be said that it can also get too hot to have the top off. If you have synthetic leather seats or seat covers in your Jeep, sunny days over 100 degrees can be brutal. If you are planning on taking the top off in extremely high temperatures, it may be worth your while to invest in a sun shade of some sort.
